Who are the people you serve with your mission? Describe briefly.
WRC’s target population is any woman and girl in need of assistance in southeastern PA, including Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties. WRC’s mission is to assist women and girls in successfully navigating difficult life transitions, providing tools, resources, and support in addition to hope. Our service model is based on addressing the needs our Helpline callers present to us, recognizing that their individual circumstances have been greatly impacted by the systemic barriers surrounding them. Our goal is to increase agency and resiliency, in addition to support for overcoming barriers, so that they might have the opportunity to overcome and thrive, and in turn “inspire others to do the same,” the second part of our mission statement.

Due to the impact of the pandemic, the women we serve are experiencing greater challenges with their job searches and career advancement goals. With this feedback, WRC has incorporated career coaching into our new Financial Stability Services to maximize WRC's existing relationships with women executives and senior managers, job placement agencies, and educational programs to help our clients access high quality career coaching and networking.

Our programming, such as our Girls Lead program, includes strategic partnerships with local schools. In the area of thought leadership, our communications director (who is also our director of development) has been publishing on LinkedIn about the pandemic's effects on women and also conducts a local TV interview show to broadcast community resources. WRC's communications also cover the breadth and depth of marketing activities, such as a monthly e-newsletter, posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter, and an actively viewed and searched website.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
The pandemic hit WRC in March 2020. We immediately transferred our Helpline number to an internet-based phone number, so that our staff and helpline volunteers could respond to calls from the safety of their own homes. In addition, we set up cloud-based file sharing so that the staff and volunteers could access the same registration forms and information and resource files. Legal consultations were quickly transitioned to phone and video conferencing, maintaining the same schedule with our pro bono attorneys offering 30 consultations per month. WRC’s Resource Coordination and Counseling (RCC) Services became a lifeline for numerous women as their already challenging circumstances became increasingly complicated by the pandemic, pushing many women to the brink. With the help of a telehealth solution, WRC’s counselors assisted clients in accessing community resources for basic needs while bolstering their resiliency and coping skills. As one client reflected to her counselor, “To me, what you and the Women’s Resource Center are doing right now is just as important as what the doctors and nurses are doing, if not more so. I don’t think I or my children would be making it through this without you.” The Girls Lead program miraculously ran with seven school partners throughout the 2020-21 school year through a virtual format, providing invaluable peer and professional support for girls identified by their school counselors as having “untapped leadership potential.” Finally, in response to our country’s heightened awareness of racial injustice over the past year, WRC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce Chair led internal and community conversations to support each other in the wake of violence and to encourage effective ally-ship and advocacy in our work and everyday lives. Led by the Taskforce, these conversations continued over the past year, focusing on key strategies for pursuing equity and inclusion and supporting clients facing societal inequities.
