Mission

Since 1979, Bethesda Project has been providing emergency shelter, housing and supportive services for thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. By offering a home and safe environment at each of its 12 sites throughout Philadelphia, adults experiencing homelessness can stabilize and regain their dignity and self-worth. From outreach and engagement to emergency shelters to permanent housing residences with supportive services, its locations create a Housing First continuum of care for Philadelphia’s most vulnerable. At Bethesda Project, we meet men and women where they are, providing case management to help them achieve their highest personal potential. Now, 45 years since its inception, Bethesda Project remains committed to its initial calling — to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none.

Vision

Bethesda Project's Theory of Change clarifies the ultimate impact we seek to achieve: ending chronic homelessness among single adults in Philadelphia, while also identifying the short, medium, and long-term outcomes that arise from our core programming components: person-centered services, low-barrier shelter and housing, and system and community engagement.

Goals

1.Recognizing and investing in people resources, both staff and volunteers will allow Bethesda Project to achieve long-term retention and create an increasingly diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for residents, guests, staff, and volunteers.
2.Investing in facilities, programs, and services that support residents and guests achieving their life goals.
3.Expanding external communications and outreach to educate and inspire compassionate actions in support of people experiencing chronic homelessness will take Bethesda Project into the realm of leader and influencer within the city of Philadelphia.
