Mission

Our mission at Hastings Family Service is to engage community to provide help and hope for neighbors. Founded in 1970, Hastings Family Service (HFS) is a community based nonprofit agency providing a range of emergency and supportive services for over 55 years. HFS assists and guides neighbors from the Hastings area who lack food, clothing, shelter, support or transportation. HFS provides help and hope in a spirit of caring and respect, knowing that unforeseen circumstances like job elimination, reduction in work hours or medical emergencies can happen to any of us at any time. The current economy has created numerous vulnerabilities, and HFS strives to help those in need find longer-term solutions while providing fulfilling opportunities for volunteers and community members to support those efforts.

Goals

1.Hastings Family Service (HFS) focuses on meeting the basic needs of the area communities, so two of our strategic priorities include Building Capacity and Sustainability and Optimizing Programs and Resources. For example, HFS has added an additional 30 full food shelf appointments this year, some after 5pm, to expand access due to increased need.
2.Strategic priorities to build capacity include: Strengthen Community Engagement and Cultivate/Retain an effective volunteer team. HFS provides a broad array of programs and services with the help of over 500 volunteers that fill over 1000 shifts/month, and our local community supports the organization at a very high level. Together, they make everything we do possible!
3.HFS focuses on mission-critical programs and continually evaluates the need for and the effectiveness of programs. The values that guide our decisions and actions are: People come first. Inclusion matters. Connections fuel impact. Community drives purpose. Gratitude guides us.
