Mission: Established in 1973, International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) brings glory to God by offering help and hope to our hurting world.
I.D.E.S. seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of suffering people throughout the world in the name of Jesus.
We work in partnership with Christian Churches / Churches of Christ in the U.S. and their missionaries overseas.
Our projects fall into one of five "Focus Areas": Disaster assistance, Hunger relief, Medical care, Development, and Evangelism.
Nearly all our projects touch on the priority of caring for the poor, the sick, the hungry and the homeless (see Matthew 25:31ff) . This is at the center of our mission and purpose.

Part of our goal in rating the financial performance of charities is to help donors assess the financial capacity and sustainability of a charity. More than half of IDES' yearly income comes from voluntary donations by U.S. churches which are part of the Christian Church / Church of Christ fellowship (the remainder comes from individual donors). A significant number of these congregations have seen a drop in attendance due to COVID-19 concerns in their communities. As offerings decline, a congregation's ability to maintain their past level of support for IDES' is impacted.
Many of our international partners are in countries / regions where strict COVID-19 related shutdowns were imposed by local or national governments. Their inability to travel negatively impacted our efforts to deliver services in those areas. We also saw a significant increase in medical relief, and hunger relief project applications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the weeks of Indiana's shutdown, most of our staff worked from home. As we respond to U.S. disasters, we follow guidelines put in place by local and state governments. As staff members have displayed possible COVID-19 symptoms, we have undergone testing to determine if a person is infected with the virus. Those who test positive have worked from home for the number of quarantine days recommended by the CDC.
We have created a new system for remotely accessing files stored on our individual desktops and shared files from a centralized server. Our phone system has also been upgraded to function remotely. These changes greatly simplify the process of working remotely when the need arises.
