Organization Mission

The mission of the CCO is "transforming college students to transform the world". We accomplish this by:
1. Sharing the Gospel with students and developing passionate disciples of Jesus Christ
2. Serving together with the church and inviting students into the lives of local congregations
3. Giving students a vision for serving Jesus Christ in their studies, jobs, communities, and families

Founded in 1971, the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) has partnered with over 25 denominations to reach hundreds of thousands of college students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to see a generation of college students transformed by the power of Jesus Christ and His Gospel, in partnership with the local church, reaching the world for the glory of God.

This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

Donations to our organization declined, as did the ability of some churches to partner with us financially. We also applied and received the PPP loan and were able to employ all of our staff.

How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

Campuses closed to classes and went online. Churches closed their doors and went online. We could not meet in person as a staff for supervision or training. We were unable to do anything in person unless the student lived nearby and the meeting could be done outdoors.

How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

Our staff figured out creative ways to continue connecting with students—calling, texting, FaceTiming, hosting Bible studies via Google Hangouts and Zoom video calls, and reaching out in tangible ways to students. Virtual Bible studies around the country drew record numbers of students—students who never accepted invitations to attend in-person Christian gatherings on campus are hungry for connection and thirsty for Truth. We held a virtual graduation party for students from our campuses to celebrate their accomplishment. Jubilee 2021 was held virtually, with staff able to not only invite students, but church staff and members. Our training department resourced our staff to engage with students to help them create a rule of life during these disorienting times. Staff supervision and training were done virtually. We offered CCO labs taught by well-known speakers on the theology of suffering, ways to cope with COVID, and more to staff, students, donors, partner pastors, and others.

Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

We will retain some virtual tools for ministry so that we can include students who aren't geographically able to be involved. We will retain some virtual supervision of staff who are geographically distant from their supervisor and other staff. Some trainings will also continue to be done virtually so that staff have some flexibility in completing the training according to their schedules. We will retain some aspects of virtual events and the ability to have a speaker who cannot be physically present at an event.
