The Westmoreland Food Bank is an active partner in the local nonprofit community. Staff members regularly work with other agencies and organizations to accomplish common community goals. Food Bank staff participate in Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation, and United Way trainings and conference opportunities. Lastly, the Food Bank is an active member of the Feeding Pennsylvania and Hunger Free PA statewide hunger relief associations. Participation in these associations involves advocacy at the state and federal levels for policies that affect the consumers we serve. As a Member of the Feeding America network, the Food Bank is recognized as a premier hunger relief organization, raising awareness to food insecurity through various marketing mediums, such as social media, billboards, and digital advertising, etc.

The year 2020 brought with it challenges and moments of great uncertainty and fear for families and individuals living in Westmoreland County. Collaboration, dedication and appreciation are not just themes but actions taken throughout our network and community through this unprecedented time. One thing that never faltered was the commitment and dedication of the Westmoreland Food Bank to serve our community. While the organization was operating without a roadmap, the governance structure we have built over the years prevailed. The Food Bank’s Board of Directors and Leadership team worked together seamlessly to accomplish the organization's mission.
Our staff and volunteers assembled and distributed nearly 188,000 food boxes through over 400 drive-up distributions throughout the county. Our staff, donors and volunteers proudly and phenomenally stepped up, rising to the challenges as we navigated the pandemic, initially day-to-day problem solving, and then eventually long-term planning. Our strong organizational foundation allowed us to pivot and react quickly to the extraordinary circumstances and needs created by this pandemic. Nearly all of our internal and external processes and our entire food sourcing model had to be reevaluated, redesigned and in many cases reimplemented to ensure safety to our team, volunteers and our consumers. It took the collaboration and innovation of our entire network to achieve the success we accomplished along the way.
We witnessed first-hand, our community coming together in a way we have not seen in nearly 40 years of food banking. We are proud to share that we have set new standards for performance under extremely challenging circumstances. At the center of all of our actions and decisions was and will always be our commitment that no one goes hungry.
