Gotham Early Music Scene

Mission

The mission of Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS) is to promote and enrich public understanding, appreciation, and availability of early music in New York City. Early music was formerly understood as Western European repertoires from the Medieval to Classical, but has now been expanded to include music from around the globe, creating a more inclusive and accurate record of significant compositional achievement from the 6th to 19th centuries. Principle areas of GEMS’ service include presenting world-class early music performances, expanding and diversifying audiences, and enhancing the stability of participating artists and organizations.

Vision

GEMS envisions expansive public access for diverse audiences throughout New York City to the timeless artistic beauty and emotional depth, cultural and historical significance, and individual and audience enjoyment of early music, while providing fair-wage work opportunities for dedicated artists devoted to the genre.
