Vision

In an ideal world, orangutans are living freely in their forest home, as nature intended. They are safe from their number one predator-- MAN. Unfortunately, they are losing habitat at astronomical levels and entire populations of orangutans are being killed when forest is burned down and the land is converted to oil palm plantations. In order to mitigate this disaster-- and prevent extinction-- we work with partners to intervene and save as many individuals as possible. They are relocated to safe, distant areas of forest whenever possible. Young orangutans as well as those needing medical attention are brought to care centers where they are rehabilitated in order to return to the wild. Those who cannot return to the wild will need permanent sanctuary care. In these cases we are working to create cage-free, forested sanctuary space so that these individuals can live a life of quiet dignity, as stress-free as possible.

Goals

1. 1.Save as many individual orangutans as possible and to return them to the wild when possible. We want them to be reproducing to ensure there are genetically viable orangutan populations in the wild.
2. 2.We are working with out partners in Borneo and Sumatra to ensure that orangutans who cannot be released back into the wild can live in cage-free, forested sanctuary space.
3. 3.We are investing in local communities to regrow forest so that orangutans can have a forest in the future. This is a win-win for orangutans and indigenous people who live in or near these forests.
