Asking beneficiaries for feedback has improved the relationship between Embrace Relief and those it serves. We have seen that this shift in the relationship empowers beneficiaries and makes them feel more connected and a part of the program. In addition, it helps build trust between the organization and the people we serve because they can see their recommendations, suggestions, and input reflected in the programs.

Briefly describe a recent change that your organization made in response to feedback from the people you serve.
Recently, Embrace Relief's Board of Directors decided to start creating and sharing videos with donors, including before and after photos and videos of their new or reconstructed water well. The Board made this decision because the organization learned through electronic surveys that donors feel more connected, comfortable, and confident about the project if they receive a specialized video of the process. Embrace Relief also made the decision to improve its U.S. Hunger Relief initiative by providing senior citizens in northern New Jersey with fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) instead of non-perishable, or shelf-stable, food. Embrace Relief made this improvement based on the direct feedback from the senior citizens we serve.

Although we experienced obstacles, we grew together as a team, learned how to communicate more effectively, and adjusted to the new normal we had found ourselves in.
