Mission

The Coalition for Rainforest nations (CfRN) is a US 501c3 not-for-profits whose mission is to reverse global deforestation by 2030 under the Paris Agreement. CfRN supports 15 countries with climate change treaties, data collection and capacity building as well as national implementation and enabling finance. We have 20 years’ experience and relationships with governments from the Global South and employ a small number of specialist staff, mostly from the Global South. Our challenge is that we operate in a funding “blind spot". We receive no multilateral funding although we support countries under the Paris Agreement, and have received no support from large US foundations to-date. CfRN's head office is in New York with staff in Central Africa, America, Europe, India and Southeast Asia.

Goals

1.Policy Support – Since 2005, CfRN has advocated for rainforests within the UN’s climate change framework. CfRN will scale up its policy work for the pivotal COP27 summit in Egypt in November, 2022.
2.Capacity Building - CfRN trains countries to meet the technical requirements of the Paris Agreement. In 2022, CfRN aims to work with 10 new countries to build their capacity for conservation work.
3.Direct Finance – CfRN countries have made 9 gigatons of emission reductions but only 5% have been financed. CfRN launched the redd.plus platform last year to finance additional carbon reductions.
