The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year
2020 proved to be a challenging year for us due to more than just Covid-19 related issues. As an organization, we have worked hard to overcome these setbacks and continue to dedicate our mission to empower students in Bayonnais, Haiti through education.
In 2019, the last mission trip that was able to successfully travel to Haiti was in April of that year. The political climate in Haiti has made it very difficult for our friends in the US to safely travel there. Mission trips have been extremely successful in showing what life looks like in Bayonnais, Haiti - both in the challenges that they face and the joy they have in life. Missionaries then take this information and share with their congregations. This in turn inspires many to sponsor students through our sponsorship drives. Sponsorship not only pays for their schooling, uniform, and school supplies, it also gives them a hot meal daily and access to the medical clinic that our sister organization helps support. We have had to lean into our social media through pictures and video to try and communicate what those on a mission trip would see in person.
In the US, not being able to do anything in person, has prevented us from having sponsorship drives. This is at the heart of what we do. We have created a “virtual” sponsorship drive and it has had a small amount of success. Being in person at churches still proves to be the most effective way to show potential sponsors what an amazing experience it can be to sponsor a student.
We hired our first full time employee in January 2021 - a new Executive Director that is dedicated to expanding our organization through not only student sponsorship but through corporate partnership as well. We have rebranded our organization and updated our mission statement to expand our reach for those who may have a heart for Haiti.
