What is your organization aiming to accomplish?

Help Animals India strives to support, inform and advise the animal charities in India that are our partners. Our help to them supports these Indian NGO's ultimately become more independent with their own resources and their own staff and volunteers. Building a real bridge for sustainable animal welfare and environmental reform for their areas in India for the future. Let us help this developing country of India with a rich history of compassion live up to its own heritage.

What are your strategies for making this happen?

Help Animals India is well versed in funding both the most urgent needs and long-term solutions. By personal contact, continual correspondence online, photos, and visits each charity that we support is well vetted. The donations we receive are awarded as grants to some amazing organizations in India. • Help Animals India channels your donations to both well-established and emerging Indian animal protection groups who confront daunting obstacles every day in their mission to rescue, shelter and fight for the rights of animals. We work closely with these groups and vouch for their courage, compassion and determination. Our guidance helps them improve their missions and operations so they can maximize their effectiveness as advocates for and defenders of the animals of India. . We're the only American charity that enables donors to contribute to a wide variety of Indian animal protection groups with a single check. We also allow you to earmark your donation to any specific group or project we fund. The amount awarded to each organization varies from year to year depending on what their urgent needs are and how they manage the grant. A dollar donated to our partner groups in India, where prices are still very low, can accomplish as much as five or ten dollars donated to charities in developed countries like the United States. If you normally donate $500 a year to charities in the United States or any other developed country, donating even $100 of that to Help Animals India can effectively boost your contribution to the animals to the equivalent of $1000 or more

What are your organization's capabilities for doing this?

Help Animals India Board is composed of four activists who are well informed of the issues and problems facing the charities in India we support. The Founder/Director has been a lifelong humane volunteer and has devoted her life to helping India animals for over 20 years now. The dollar may go 10 times as far in India/Nepal as it does in USA. With the great resources of Seattle, Washington we are able to connect compassionate people here and others worldwide to the needy but capable people in India to help the animals in the most efficient ways.

How will your organization know if you are making progress?

Despite some of the best animal protection laws in the world and a renowned heritage of reverence for life, modern India is a country where millions of animals suffer severe neglect or abuse. Overpopulation, poverty, pollution, superstition, apathy and ignorance all contribute to their plight. In a country where human misery and impoverishment remain high, the welfare of destitute animals is a low priority. India's animals have strong indigenous allies. The nation is blessed with many dedicated animal welfare organizations. Help Animals India seeks out the best of these under funded organizations to provide financial and practical assistance where it can make the most difference. We strive not only to achieve immediate benefits for India's animals, but to nurture an enduring culture of animal protectionism/ More people who travel to India from the west are asking questions how can they help. More people are unwilling to accept the sight of suffering animals and want to halt the spread of rabies, protect the adoption of the Native dogs, stop the poaching of wild animals, educate people on how to take care of cats, and free the elephants from abuse. Many young people coming of age in India are also unwilling to witness the suffering and do nothing. These activists motive us to help them do more with the little resources they have.

What have and haven't you accomplished so far?

One of our main focus is ABC (animal birth control) or spay/neuter/rabies vaccinations for street/community dogs and cats. From the training of animal handlers to learning the more humane way of catch and release (with a net); to the best practices of sterile operations; the veterinarians we support are helping thousands of street animals.Without our help these dogs and the public would be at risk for rabies. Each shot only costs $1. Some areas of India did not have veterinarians who knew cat spay/neuter so we have had vets trained for that. Our groups are called day and night for countless rescue operations for many different types of animals – all saved from a cruel fate and much suffering! Help Animals India has funded vehicles for rescuing animals both large and small and picking up community dogs for animal birth control. Billboards! Concepts of helping community (street) dogs are new in most of India so we use billboards to help educate.. India is a fast developing economy but many products needed to help the animals are not available there, we try and send over as many medical supplies as we can. Help Animals India is very concerned about the environment and its effects on the animals. We support the Plastic Cow project and work to support the banning of plastic bags due to its harm to the street animals. From rural India to the chaotic cities the projects we have supported have brought the idea of compassionate rescue to the communities they serve. Vegan education is introduced when possible for the sake of health, the animals, and the planet.
