Vision

The SS United States Museum and Visitor Experience will celebrate the historic legacy of the world's fastest ocean liner while exploring maritime history, technological innovation, mid-century modern art and design, ocean science, and marine conservation. Accompanying the SS United States living reef, the Museum will draw visitors from across the country and around the world, feature innovative STEAM education, support economic growth and coastal innovation, and inspire curiosity and imagination across generations.

Goals

1. 1.Preserve and restore the SS United States’ 6,000+ artifacts, archives, engineering drawings, photographs, and oral histories documenting the ocean liner’s role in post-war history, American shipbuilding, and steam propulsion. The Conservancy will catalog and digitize these materials, expanding the collection 20% by 2027 through digital platforms and new public installations at the Museum.
2. 2.As we plan the SS United States Museum and Visitor Experience, we will advance STEAM education through digital programs, exhibitions, lectures, and public programs on maritime history, engineering, and ecology. With Okaloosa County and Thinc Design, we will finalize museum planning by 2027 and secure $750,000 toward a $75M campaign, supported by a 25% increase in volunteer hours to 4,296.
3. 3.Educate the public about the SS United States through exhibits. Plan pop-up and digital museum exhibitions in two Okaloosa County locations to enhance public appreciation of America’s Flagship and expand access to the Conservancy’s collections. Engage residents and visitors in the history, engineering, and legacy of the ship, increasing our audience by 25% through outreach and digital education.
