Vision

BEAT envisions a world where all people recognize their interconnectedness to, and dependence on, the natural world; the air and water are clean; rivers and streams flow naturally; rain soaks into the ground and makes its way slowly to our lakes and rivers; there is plenty of interconnected, natural land where wildlife thrive; and communities work together to sustain their environmental health and economic vitality.

Goals

1. 1.BEAT’s goals are to protect the environment, especially wetlands and wildlife corridors. From the start, BEAT has learned about Massachusetts and Federal laws that - if enforced - protect the environment. We advocate strongly for their enforcement and improvement, and we educate our community members to help them be better advocates as well.
2. 2.BEAT is out in the field gathering data to show where infrastructure improvements could better protect and restore wildlife habitat and wildlife habitat connectivity. We then work with municipal, county, state, and federal officials to make improvements to our infrastructure. (e.g. roads, parking lots, etc.)
3. 3.We involve community members and develop their leadership skills in protecting the environment. In 2021, we purchased our Environmental Leadership & Education Center to provide a space not only for staff, but to expand our environmental education and leadership development programs. We are continuing our renovations to make this space fully accessible and fossil fuel free.
