This is our commitment to our Americans in uniform and their bravery.

Troops Direct is not about supporting war or the politics that may surround it. We are simply about providing for our heroes in an unprecedented manner. Until there are no more conflicts, Troops Direct will be there for our country and her brave service members.

Donors have expressed extreme concern about the use of their personal information by charities and the desire to have this information kept confidential. The exchanging and sale of lists for telemarketing and the mass distribution of "junk mail," among other things, can be minimized if the charity assures the privacy of its donors. Privacy policies are assigned to one of the following categories:

  • Yes: This charity has a written donor privacy policy published on its website, which states unambiguously that (1) it will not share or sell a donor's personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations or (2) it will only share or sell personal information once the donor has given the charity specific permission to do so.

  • Opt-out: The charity has a written privacy policy published on its website which enables donors to tell the charity to remove their names and contact information from lists the charity shares or sells. How a donor can have themselves removed from a list differs from one charity to the next, but any and all opt-out policies require donors to take specific action to protect their privacy.
  • No: This charity either does not have a written donor privacy policy in place to protect their contributors' personal information, or the existing policy does not meet our criteria.

The privacy policy must be specific to donor information. A general website policy which references "visitor" or "user" personal information will not suffice. How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

Our income has been significantly impacted due to the cancellation of 4 major fundraising events. Additionally, many of our donors have been unable to give at their past levels. These donors include high net worth individuals whose own revenue sources were impacted. In all, our budget has been impacted by 25%. We applied for PPP loans in an effort to retain all employees. The executive director also deferred some of their salary to assist in the retention of staff.


How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

The cost of goods increased noticeably which drastically impacted our purchasing power. Moreover, many of our suppliers shut down or were experiencing unprecedented backorders on their materials. Also, our office building experienced closured which impeded our ability to provide our services as we usually would.


How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

We identified the need to supply the National Guard with needed PPE as they served on the frontlines of COVID here in the USA. Although limited due to the availability of funds and supplies, we were able to help make a significant impact regarding their health and safety.


Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

With the increase in the usage (and familiarity) of video conferencing (Zoom etc), we have started doing donor engagement sessions online when people can interact with us from the comfort of their home. This has enabled us to communicate what we are doing and what needs are at little to no cost to the organization. We have also commenced the restructuring of our direct mail platform to one that focuses more on e-messaging (as opposed to costly snail mail).

Mission

Troops Direct augments the United States military supply chain by providing American forces with critically needed items that cannot be accessed through conventional government channels. Troops Direct specializes in medical, operational and tactical equipment support with a focus on increasing mission efficacy and the safety of our service members. Additionally, Troops Direct advocates for our military through public outreach & education regarding the needs and risks associated with their service. This outreach empowers Americans to let our service members know that they are acknowledged and supported.

With combat operations slowing, the vision of Troops Direct is to focus more on the humanitarian and lifesaving side of our military's mission sets. Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


We rolled up our sleeves and worked harder than we ever have before. Income was impacted dramatically due to the cancellation of many or our fundraising events. We could not let this hurt our mission or the Americans that rely on us. As a result, we contacted our donors personally -one by one- asking them for their support. This support became that of PPE and nutritional staples for our servicemembers working on the frontlines of COVID-19. The our donors did the best they could but it wasn't at their past levels of giving. Additionally, our employees had to work from home as we worked - and taught our kids, cared for ill family members and quarantined. We were resilient but it was not easy. We really honed in on and improved our methods of communication. This pertained to internal interactions but also with our donors, vendors and the recipients of our support. We analyzed our budget and looked for areas of improvements and made changes when needed.
