Hope for Haiti's Children

Hope For Haiti's Children (HFHC) is a faith-based organization founded in 1995 in order to demonstrate Christian compassion to poverty-bound Haitian children and their families, providing opportunities for these children to become leaders in their homes, churches, and communities. Today, there are over 2,035 children sponsored in ten different schools associated with churches of Christ in central and southern Haiti. Currently Hope for Haiti's Children average 275 new students per year to the Child Education Sponsorship program. HFHC follows a sustainable approach in this work, having established an in-country network of trusted local Christian educators, business leaders, and other professionals who carry out the day-to-day operations.

Goal One: Child Education Sponsorship: Hope for Haiti's Children serves to unite a child in need with a sponsor who provides that child with the funds necessary to receive a quality Christian education.

Goal Two: Nurture: HFHC oversees two orphanages where more than 65 children are nurtured and cared for by devoted house parents.

Goal Three: Train outstanding leaders by providing vocational training programs and Leadership Camps for teens.

From May-July 2020, a skilled leadership team was assembled in the U.S. to provide 8 weeks of virtual leadership training for our staff in Haiti to equip them to lead three sessions of summer camp for 175 teens. Topics included (1) leading with integrity (2) how to conduct effective discussion groups, (3) behavior management/discipline/conflict resolution and more! The Haitian team then took the material and presentation to train a second tier of staff for the camp. In 2021, they will now lead this camp again! HFHC's U.S. leadership team was offered the ability to study and earn credentials as Certified Nonprofit Executives and Certified Development Executives. Two employees earned this.

HFHC works with partnering organizations to widen the scope of services offered to the children in Haiti. In 2021, nine organizations worked together to ensure food was delivered to seven organizations working in Haiti to help feed the hungry.

Each year, Hope for Haiti's Children conducts an Annual Child Care Clinic to provide medical exams to our 2,200 sponsored children. Normally, around 60 Americans, made up of medical professionals and volunteers, travel to Haiti and join our Haitian staff and translators in this mission effort. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions and the political unrest in Haiti, we were unable to invite the team to go and serve. Because we are fully committed to providing an annual medical exam for each of our children, we asked our staff in Haiti to assemble a team of our staff members, the school nurses in our ten schools, and we hired two local Haitian physicians and a pharmacist for two weeks. Together, they travelled to our ten schools and set up mobile clinic in each school. The needed medications and supplies were shipped to Haiti so that they would have everything needed to treat any illnesses found. During the clinic, they took a photo of each child that visited the clinic. Each child has a sponsor who supports them monthly to get an education. These photos were uploaded via Dropbox and have been printed and mailed to each of the sponsors. This is also a commitment that we make to the sponsors, that they will receive an update and photo of the child they support each year. So, although we have never faced a challenge of conducting this clinic without an American team, our Haitian staff and medical team in Haiti did an excellent job! We are so proud of our team!
