Founded in 1969, Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K) is the only non-profit organization in Greater Cleveland providing new shoes and clothes at no charge throughout the year to thousands of children in need. Through a network of 27 Distribution Partners, SC4K positively impacts the lives of area children by giving them the self-esteem and confidence that comes from having brand new shoes and clothes. SC4K is proud to serve as a change agent for area families living in poverty. The offering of shoe gift cards and free clothing also brings families into our Distribution Partners' agencies that would not normally come through the door. Once at the agency, families are able to access additional programs and services working to improve and enrich their lives. These programs include food pantries, GED education programs, resale shops, job placement, Head Start, daycare, immunization, etc. (Less)

Both the Executive Director and Director of Programs worked with an outside consulting agency to develop Succession Planning programs for their respective positions. We continue to work with other non-profit leaders to help tell the story of how our community needs to expand its services to kids in poverty. We now have a network of leaders outside our partner network (Cleveland Food Bank, Kids' Book Bank, Coats for Kids, Christ Child Society, etc.) who are informal partners -- not competitors for funding.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
When restrictions from the pandemic were eased, we were able to restore our in-person teacher shops and re-engage smaller teams of volunteers while maintaining health & safety protocols. The majority of schools we serve made the unexpected decision to eliminate uniform requirements, so we changed our student packages to include more school-appropriate clothing in place of the uniforms we had been prepared to give. We quickly reached out to our vendors and donors to get the needed items and made sure students had what they needed to start the fall semester with confidence. The surge of Covid transmissions in the latter part of 2021 led us to return to more strict safety measures, but we kept items moving into the hands of students & teachers . We made the decision to eliminate all in-person distributions and replace them with an improved online ordering & pick-up system for the second semester. These challenges have actually improved our flexibility and readiness for change. We've increased our proficiency with varied systems that we can tailor & employ however and whenever the situation requires. We are moving ahead to expand programming to additional schools in 2022. Even if the methods have to adjust along the way, our staff, volunteers, and board are ready to do what it takes to make sure kids & teachers have what they need.
