All team members completed a DiSC assessment to help them identify and understand their own and co-workers' personalities, behaviors, and diversity-related skills and characteristics. What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
Hunger Network, a consortium of 79 hunger centers, collaborate to achieve food justice and reduce food insecurity. We provide quarterly professional development, networking and problem solving. As one of 12 nonprofit partners of a national Food Rescue Program, we are the first recovery network in Ohio and the third in the United States to use the Food Rescue Hero app technology to minimize food waste and maximize food access. We work with 175 for- and non-profit organizations to donate food that is transported by 518 active Food Rescue Hero volunteers to 193 non-profit recipient sites (transitional housing, senior centers, after-school programs, etc). In 2022, we presented at the first Food Rescue Hero Conference in Pittsburgh and at the 2023 National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference in Washington DC. We are selected to present at the Ohio Hunger Dialogues in 2023. We advocated for the 2023 Food Donation Improvement Act, Ohio food insecurity budget issues and local food policy.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Hunger Network is no stranger to adaptation as over the past 50 years the organization has responded to the growing and evolving needs of our community. Both during and post-pandemic, we continue(d) to play a major role in reducing food insecurity. Pantries converted food distribution processes from traditional indoor service to outdoor drive-thru distributions and now back again to more social customer service minded strategies, such as implementing dignity of choice for those we serve. Over the past 12-18 months, we initiated funding to provide free personal and household hygiene items for those in need to lessen the financial burden on families since SNAP benefits would not cover those necessary, costly items. As the demand for fresh produce increased, Hunger Network Food Rescue services expanded beyond Cuyahoga County and began rescuing prepared foods from stores. During the pandemic, we purchased meals that kept restaurants opened and via our Food Rescue app delivered hot meals to our neighbors whose congregate settings had to close.
