The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes

    Mission

Since its founding in 1966, the mission of the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes has remained consistent: to conserve a natural area, connect people with nature and inspire environmental stewardship. The Nature Center's vision is to be a model urban environmental resource that welcomes all and enriches people's lives through education, innovative programs, and community involvement. In 1971, the Nature Center was one of the first organizations that the National Park Service recognized as a National Environmental Education Landmark and a National Environmental Study Area. In addition to our building, which accommodates school groups, community programs, and casual visitors, the Nature Center maintains a 20-acre outdoor classroom comprised of five native habitats, two miles of trails, a pavilion, and other outdoor facilities that provide formal and informal learning opportunities to over 140,000 visitors and students each year.
