Better Government Association Inc.

Mission

The Better Government Association is a non-partisan, nonprofit news organization and civic advocate working for transparency, equity and accountability in government in Chicago and across Illinois. The BGA was founded in 1923 and marked its 100th anniversary of serving Illinois residents in 2023. The BGA publishes the Pulitzer-Prize winning Illinois Answers Project, an investigative and solutions-focused digital news outlet (launched in 2022). Our separate BGA Policy arm advocates for more transparent, accountable and equitable government through public policy reform. Through BGA's civic engagement and community building, we work to inform and engage citizens, equipping them with information, techniques and tools to demand government accountability.

1.The BGA's Illinois Answers Project newsroom investigates significant problems in Chicago and Illinois through in-depth reporting and offers the most comprehensive solutions-focused reporting.
2.Our separate BGA Policy focuses its work researching, drafting, supporting, and advocating for issues and legislation that improves transparency, equity and accountability in government in Illinois.
3.Convene and collaborate with large and small groups of problem solvers, leveraging their expertise will build bipartisan solutions for all Illinois residents.
