Thomas More Society
Mission
Thomas More Society is a not-for-profit, national public interest law firm dedicated to championing life, family, and freedom. Founded in 1998 by Tom Brejcha and based in Chicago, Thomas More Society defends and fosters support for these causes by providing high quality pro bono legal services from local trial courts all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Thomas More Society continues to litigate cutting-edge cases defending the right to life, the innate goodness of marriage and the traditional family, and the religious liberty rights of Americans across the country.
Vision
At Thomas More Society, our vision is to be the unwavering defender of life, family, and freedom in our nation. Rooted in our historic victories, including NOW v. Scheidler, we empower pro-life advocates to stand against injustice with courage and conviction by defending their First Amendment rights. Committed to protecting the rights of individuals and ministries, we champion religious liberty, ensuring that no one is forced to compromise their beliefs or fund practices that violate their conscience. Through bold advocacy, high stakes litigation, and steadfast dedication, we aim to renew our culture, set precedent, and inspire a future grounded in truth and justice for generations to come.
Goals
- 1.Thomas More Society is focusing on defending life, family, and freedom, streamlining our mission to renew the culture. We’ve scaled back on non-core programs like election integrity, adopting stricter criteria for pro bono cases. This ensures resources align with donor values and protect essential pillars for societal flourishing, maximizing our impact.
- 2.Thomas More Society’s goal to advise lawmakers reflects our commitment to advocating for life, family, and freedom. By guiding policy, we protect vulnerable human life, amplifying our impact to shape a just society. This extends our advocacy beyond cases to systemic change, embedding pro-life values in laws to foster a culture of dignity and justice.
- 3.The Thomas More Society has enhanced organizational capacity by auditing vendor ROI and bringing direct response marketing and communications in-house. This strategic move optimizes financial resources, streamlines management, and boosts technical collaboration with dedicated in-house staff.
