Mr Bones & Company Inc.
Mission
Founded in 2013, Mr. Bones & Co. (MBC), is a volunteer based 501(c)3 animal welfare non-profit supporting animal rescue and advocacy in our own backyard of New York City, as well as on a national and global level. Our reputation for giving the dogs many organizations are unable or unwilling to take in their only chance at life is well-established. Our main function is canine rescue via One Lucky Pup (OLP), our signature rescue, rehabilitation and adoption program. OLP specializes in dogs facing extraordinary challenges, whether it be extensive emergency veterinary care/surgery, unfair breed discrimination or those languishing in municipal shelters with behavioral issues that make them harder to place. We focus on the quality of our cases, not the quantity. By keeping our program small, typically no more than fifteen dogs at a time, we can put an intensive amount of attention into each dog, evaluating their needs intimately to determine their best plan of care and ultimately, their best home. Most of the dogs we take into our OLP program are pit bull-type dogs from the NYC ACC. We rely heavily on our veterinary partners as we will not deny a dog the care they need, which can range from simple vaccines and spay/neuter procedures to extensive surgeries and rehabilitation, as well as needs encompassing force-free training and medication, all guided by professional veterinary behaviorists. Our organization is committed to the best practices of positive reinforcement training and a fear-free, humane approach to behavior modification and training. MBC also provides grants through our Pay It Forward (PIT) program. PIT is designed to support existing shelters and rescue groups via outreach initiatives including spay/neuter events, fundraising, and adoption support. We award numerous grants each year for a variety of services; pet care and emergency assistance to low-income families, adoption training to help harder to place dogs find homes, and assistance to animal rescuers doing what they can on their own.
Vision
Mr. Bones & Co. firmly believes and advocates for ethical, fair treatment of animals taken in by rescues and shelters, which means securing comprehensive care and rehabilitation, from ear to tail! We actively speak out against the dangers of aversive training tactics that rely heavily on force, fear and coercion while offering community programs exchanging prong/shock and choke collars with no pull freedom harnesses, and education on animal behavior.
Goals
- 1.Our 2026 goal is creating new initiatives to support existing pet guardians and help keep them out of the NYC City shelter system, wether by prpvding veterinary care support, training grants and/or enrichment knowledge and tools.
- 2.In 2026, we will be refocusing our work on our One Lucky Pup program, as well as our Pay It Forward program, as we have seen how impactful these two leading programs are on the communities we serve. We will be reevaluating our smaller programs to understand if we can revamp them, or if they will be retired.
- 3.As we launch our new website, we will also be restructuring our fundraising efforts and donor outreach to ensure we remain operable as well scale, and in an effort to be able to offer modest salaries to attract consistant support and not rely exclusively on volunteers.
