This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them, and doing this pauses our revision of their rating. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Ozone House Inc. reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
Program Delivery
Fundraising Capacity
Revenue
Staffing
Administrative Capacity
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to deeply impact the young people we work with and we have made continual adaptations to our programs to ensure that we are still able to provide young people with crisis intervention and prevention services. Our operations have continued 24/7 throughout the past 18 months and 52 young people have lived onsite at Ozone House’s new facility in Ypsilanti throughout the pandemic. Many more, who live off-site in supportive housing, have been served with basic needs support and case management services by our frontline staff. We have taken significant steps over the past season to ensure the safety and health of our staff and residents. We now offer bi-weekly onsite COVID testing. In partnership with Washtenaw County Public Health Department, we coordinated early vaccines for our staff and residents. We have distributed masks and at-home COVID testing kits to young people and staff.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
We had to pause programming at our Drop-In Center due to Covid safety restrictions. We pivoted that program to providing pop-up Drop-In Center services outdoors in local parks and other areas frequented by young people. Our case managers provided delivery of food and essential supplies to young people who could not come onsite for support due to quarantining, transportation issues, or other Covid disruptions.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
We have taken significant steps over the past season to ensure the safety and health of our staff and residents. We now offer bi-weekly onsite COVID testing. In partnership with Washtenaw County Public Health Department, we coordinated early vaccines for our staff and residents. We have distributed masks and at-home COVID testing kits to young people and staff.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
We pivoted our 24/hour Crisis phone/text/chat line to operate out of staff and volunteers homes for a period of time. We do not plan to keep this in place permanently, since it is still beneficial to have in person support for our volunteer and staff crisis counselors when they are communicating with clients.
