Vision

The Kaiser Family Foundation has estimated that 40% of key patient outcomes like quality of life and survival are driven by INDIVIDUAL PATIENT BEHAVIOR. At MEI, we help people cope with the emotional blow of a life-threatening chronic disease diagnosis (chronic kidney disease) and learn how to be actively engaged in their care so they can make decisions that best fit their values and can produce their own best health outcomes.

Goals

1. 1.As a small organization, our biggest challenge is gaining awareness of our products and services. We seek strategic partnerships to help do pragmatic tests of our patient education materials vs. usual care and to spread the word about our materials. For example, last year we launched a new Learning Management System with continuing education + mentoring for nurses and dialysis technicians.
2. 2.MEI is a 32-year old non-profit with 6 full-time staff, a long-term consultant, and a graphic artist/medical illustrator. We could benefit from additional expertise on grant-writing.
3. 3.MEI continuously listens to patients, care partners, and professionals to identify emerging needs in kidney care. We analyze feedback, trends in treatment and policy, and gaps in education to develop new programs and resources that respond to real-world challenges and help people better manage kidney disease.
