Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre

Mission

THE MISSION OF THE CEDAR RAPIDS OPERA THEATRE IS TO ADVANCE OPERA AS A VITAL, LIVING AMERICAN ART FORM AND TO DEVELOP THE ARTISTS WHO CREATE IT, AS WELL AS THE AUDIENCE THAT APPRECIATES AND SUPPORTS IT.

Vision

Goals

1.Cedar Rapids Opera will expand access to its education and outreach programs by increasing school performances, community partnerships, and artist training opportunities. Through the Children’s Opera Tour, Lift Every Voice, and the Smith Young Artist Program, CRO brings professional opera directly to students, emerging artists, and underserved communities across Eastern Iowa.
2.Cedar Rapids Opera operates with a small but highly effective staff that delivers significant artistic and educational impact. To strengthen organizational capacity and sustain program growth, CRO plans to add a part-time position, increasing staff capacity to 2.5 FTE and ensuring continued delivery of high-quality productions, education, and community outreach.
3.In response to growing demand for arts access and career pathways in the performing arts, Cedar Rapids Opera is developing new programs that expand community engagement and artist development. Initiatives such as technical theater workshops for middle school students and expanded public performances create new entry points for students, emerging artists, and first-time audiences.
