Describe an investment in leadership
We often seek opportunities for investment in our staff, including external leadership development opportunities, like Princeton Alumni Corps' Emerging Leaders program. This program is designed to improve the capacity and skills of mid-level managers in the nonprofit field. We have sponsored several staff to participate in this program, including one staff member in our Development department who completed this program in 2023.
We also provide NAF staff with internal professional development opportunities. Through our education department, we hold regular training sessions on various skills and topics. We also convene several committees focused on a variety of topics, like DEIA and staff culture. These committees are a great opportunity for staff to take on new leadership roles within the organization.

What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
As the professional association and primary convener of abortion providers in North America, NAF participates and conducts strategic partnerships with organizations like the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Resources for Abortion Delivery (RAD), and the Justice Department to improve access to abortion care and ensure the safety and well-being of abortion providers.
We collaborate with other national reproductive health organizations to work together on shared goals and ideas. NAF convenes its membership annually at our own conference, but our staff also participate at other conferences, like the Society for Family Planning (SFP) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
We’ve worked to increase NAF’s brand recognition and social media presence. A recent example of our work to raise awareness of our mission is that we did an Instagram live with actress Torrey Devitto to discuss NAF’s work with abortion providers.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In the past 12-18 months, our organization has endured some of the most difficult times for our movement in the last 50 years. The fall of Roe v. Wade has devastated access to abortion care especially for those living with low incomes, people of color, and disabled people. Through this, NAF has remained steadfast in our mission to support abortion providers and their patients despite an increasing number of attacks on abortion access at the state and local level. Now more than ever, we know that our work is vital. The landscape of access has shifted significantly with clinics in North Carolina, Illinois, New Mexico, and Kansas seeing an influx of patients from other states, while other clinics have been forced to close their doors. Where we can, we are supporting clinics in ban states to stay open to provide pre- and post-abortion care and other health services.
NAF has adapted to these radical changes by continuing to provide our important services, including quality assurance site visits and trainings, online learning opportunities and webinars, security assessments and trainings, and our annual conference. We’ve also begun to convene virtually with various groups across our membership to increase collaboration and community amongst abortion providers working in similar roles. Our members make abortion care possible and we will continue to support them in their heroic work.
