-The work of Outreach is community building, training, and organizing. Its theory of change, extensive development process, monitoring, and evaluation, all orient toward these outcomes, including local and state policy advocacy.
-It is a member and significant voice of the Movement for Community-Led Development. This includes co-leading the creation of the CLD Assessment Tool, used by NGOs to explore their interventions around community-led development dimensions. As well, a report on the state of community-led programming worldwide that won a USAID case competition emerged.
-In collaboration with Charles Darwin University, the collaborative research team finalized a Rapid Realist Review, funded under the Implementer-led Design, Evidence, Analysis, and Learning (IDEAL) activity and USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Affairs.
-Two publications in the last six months: one in Practicing Anthropology, the other in The International Journal for Community and Social Development.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Successfully adapting to external changes in the last year required executing appropriate strategies over several years previous to those challenging 12 months. Examples: purchasing and rehabbing a building for a HQ building that would reduce ongoing expenses and diversify assets; driving down overhead through technology and strong employee performance; creating partnerships with outside organizations ranging from SEO to legal to fieldwork; creating a digital annual report for the first time; finding a donor to cover all overhead; these changes made Outreach more attractive for those with the capacity to increase their giving during a period when many others could not.
Further, Outreach had to adapt an in-person development model that could continue to work well and achieve comparable results in the field. For example, we began working in three communities with a hybrid model that didn't require a full-time employee. Instead, we used a local motivated community leader that had experienced and emerged from previous work. This is a more cost-efficient model that we're expanding in the coming year. Also, to keep communication channels robust, we needed to increase spending on technology to compensate for eliminating travel at headquarters and in the fieldwork. Because of the overall cost savings, we’ll keep much of that new model in place. As one final example, we also found the need to create sustainable outcomes for projects typically residing in relief rather than development. This meant working with communities to discover and implement long-term solutions to food security, health, environmental, and entrepreneurship that would continue to be in place after the initial funding was used.
Arguably, COVID made Outreach International, typically seen solely as a long-term, in-person development charity, adapt to become a responsive learning organization that created its most significant impact, for more people, than at any point in its forty-year history.
