Mission

Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) stewards America's culturally diverse and endangered garden and food crop legacy for present and future generations. We educate and connect people through collecting, regenerating, and sharing heirloom seeds, plants and stories. Founded in 1975, Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a membership supported nonprofit that cares for a living collection of over 20,000 heirloom, historic, and open-open pollinated varieties of seeds, apples, potato tissue, grapes, and more. SSE is committed to participatory preservation, supporting and encouraging our broad, diverse community to save and share heirloom seeds and their stories. Throughout all of our programs, we recognize and celebrate the joy, resilience, sustenance, and community that arises from the practice of seed saving.
