Community LINC works on a system level in our community by working with the Continuum of Care for the Homeless in Kansas City. As such, we serve on boards, committees and assist government agencies to further this work. additionally, we partner with landlord providers, health providers, educators and any other resources to expand our reach and educate ourselves. Our staff present at conferences and work as a liaison for city representatives,

Community LINC has worked hard to navigate COVID and the devastating impact of skyrocketing rents, gentrification, and exponential increases in homelessness in Metro Kansas City. In recent years, Kansas City has had one of the largest rent increases in the US (KC Star) and the cost of housing in Kansas City, MO is 22% higher than the state average. Since 2019, rents in Kansas City have been rising at a faster rate than what is typical. As a result, other basic needs like food, transportation, childcare, and health care are not consistently met. The sharp increase in the cost of basic needs (including housing) has a direct correlation with the 48% rise in MO’s unsheltered population observed between 2007 and 2020. As a result, the number of unsheltered people has increased 193% since 2019 and the need is growing.
Keeping our finger on the pulse of the greater Kansas City community is critical for us to continue meeting the needs of an ever-changing demographic.
As a data-driven organization, Community LINC endeavors to stabilize and improve the lives of people who are experiencing homelessness or on the verge of doing so however this is becoming increasingly difficult to do because we are experiencing a sharp decline in philanthropic dollars which is hitting according to the Giving USA 2023 report. Charitable giving in the US declined by 3.4% between 2021 and 2022. When adjusted for inflation, the decline is nearly 10.5%. Individual giving declined by 6.4% (13.4% when adjusted for inflation) and all agencies serving more.
