Donors have expressed extreme concern about the use of their personal information by charities and the desire to have this information kept confidential. The exchanging and sale of lists for telemarketing and the mass distribution of "junk mail," among other things, can be minimized if the charity assures the privacy of its donors. Privacy policies are assigned to one of the following categories:

  • Yes: This charity has a written donor privacy policy published on its website, which states unambiguously that (1) it will not share or sell a donor's personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations or (2) it will only share or sell personal information once the donor has given the charity specific permission to do so.

  • Opt-out: The charity has a written privacy policy published on its website which enables donors to tell the charity to remove their names and contact information from lists the charity shares or sells. How a donor can have themselves removed from a list differs from one charity to the next, but any and all opt-out policies require donors to take specific action to protect their privacy.
  • No: This charity either does not have a written donor privacy policy in place to protect their contributors' personal information, or the existing policy does not meet our criteria.

The privacy policy must be specific to donor information. A general website policy which references "visitor" or "user" personal information will not suffice. A policy that refers to donor information collected on the website is also not sufficient as the policy must be comprehensive and applicable to both online and offline donors. Overall cash giving was up 9%, praise God. Expenses were lowered due to staff reductions and fewer in person events. Our cash position increased and our net assets remained unchanged.

in person learning communities significantly declined. All learning communities moved to on line and participation was excellent. A number of "just in time" webinars were help to support congregations and schools.

limited spending, slight down size. Utilized technology previously in place to enhance the delivery of content. Utilized Zoom at a greater level for coaching and huddles.

We believe that PLI is being called by God to significantly accelerate a movement of the Gospel by training a global family of 30,000 leaders and churches, for the purpose of multiplying a diverse set of evangelistic communities.

We are a training organization ... so we value leadership development and keep our teams well trained. Our leadership is involved in attending conferences and seminars to keep our skills sharp. We stay on top of industry trends and reading strategies on church growth and discipleship. Staying on top of religious trends (Barna, Gallup, etc.) also helps us learn and grow.

PLI has a three year objective of partnering with 10 organizations. Further, PLI has been instrumental in launching a new companion ministry that will significantly move us towards achieving our mission. PLI is in conversations with several organizations to determine how teaching and learning might be shared - increasing efficiencies and reducing redundancies. PLI is regular presenters at LCMS District gatherings, Best Practices and other conventions. Our social media efforts have been significantly increased over the last year through Facebook and Instagram. As of this writing we have increased our Facebook followers to over 1,350 and nearly 500 on Instagram. In the fall of 2021, we intend to begin a major push on LinkedIn.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


PLI engages in ongoing strategic planning. We don't believe in "one and done" and thus our Core Team meets at least quarterly to update our mission / vision / values / objectives / initiatives. Our comprehensive 2019 plan served us quite well when the pandemic hit. One of our initiatives was to move all of our Learning Communities to mostly online. While internally this was a struggle for everyone to get on board with, COVID made it clear this was the right direction. We had begun the hardworking of planning for the change, so moving all online during COVID was much simpler. Further, pastors, church leaders and lay members now have an urgency to change their business model. Face to face worship stopped for quite a while and may not return as the way we knew it. Schools had to constantly adjust their plans. Our response was many "just in time" webinars and training to respond to the urgency our partners were facing.
