Upward Scholars

Mission

Upward Scholars provides adult immigrants the boost they need to move up the economic ladder through education and career development support. As a result of our work, adult immigrant college students continue their education, get higher-paying jobs, and serve as role models and advocates for their children and our community.

Vision

Upward Scholars is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the Bay Area providing financial, academic, career development, and holistic support to adults struggling with economic hardship so they can transition from adult schools to community colleges, attend college part-time, and gain economic mobility. We envision a future where adult immigrant students reach their full potential with the support of an engaged community.

1.The goal is to keep at least 70% of 250 students through engagement and support. We plan to boost program participation, enroll 50 TeacherUp students, and provide resources. To promote leadership, we'll retain Peer Mentors and partnerships with organizations serving low-income households, guided by community partnership guidelines and scorecard.
2.To foster a vibrant culture, we will celebrate staff who embody our values and invest in their wellness through a dedicated budget. Strengthen connections through team-building. We will continue professional development to enhance our culture and focus on recruiting and retaining volunteers. Maintaining a Tutor/Mentor Council is key, and adopting the Strategic Plan will guide our combined efforts.
