    Adaptability Practices
    30 out of 30 points
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year
With covid, many users of our software closed or reduced their programs considerably. Our ability to sell intellectual property licenses for our software declined. Simultaneously, we were investing time and money on a new intervention for older students with dyslexia, and we launched a free home tutoring service for parents of children struggling with dyslexia. The demands exceeded our cash flow. We have traditionally relied on the sale of intellectual property licenses to fuel our operations. It became clear that we needed to develop a donor base to help support operations. To support us in the short run, we were able to access small PPP loans totaling $27,000 that were forgiven, and a large SBA loan for $50,000 at very low interest and payable over 30 years. The President’s wife, Joan Griffin, also donated $35,000. After some study, we began using Google and Facebook to promote our free home tutoring service. We have about 60 users now. It is our hope that we will be able to successfully solicit a subset of these users for donations in December. The facebook page has be open less than a month, and friends, family and other people have donated about $2,400 without any effort on our part. We also expect to run a campaign in December on Facebook. We expect the intellectual property licensing revenue stream to return as covid becomes more easy to manage. There is a huge need for help with incarcerated populations with dyslexia, and those managing education for State Departments of Corrections are telling us that they are under increasing pressure to do something about it. We anticipate that our intervention for dyslexia will open more business for us. We also anticipate eventually selling intellectual property licenses to schools. However, we also believe that we need to continue developing a donor base. Our immediate expectations are modest, but with increased numbers of users and success stories to share, we expect the donor base to grow.
