Lost&Found acts as a leader in supporting youth and young adult suicide prevention through a variety of activities, primarily centered on its efforts through the State Suicide Prevention Sub-Workgroup of South Dakota, as well as regularly presenting at state and national conferences on topics of nonprofit management, public mental health, program evaluation, and suicide prevention. Additionally, Lost&Found takes a unique digital approach to suicide prevention by sharing significant content through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook meant to drive understanding of suicide prevention.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In the past year, Lost&Found responded to a likely reduction in federal funding under the CARES Act by working in coalition with healthcare and education partners to pass House Bill 1079, a one-time appropriation to fund youth and young adult suicide prevention programs in the state of South Dakota.
Lost&Found chose to adapt to a pending loss of funding by supporting legislation that would appropriate the first general funds directed toward youth and young adult suicide prevention programs in the state of South Dakota, knowing fully that the funds may not fully replace the funds that would be lost through the eventual wind-down of CARES Act funding. The steps were taken knowing that the issue we face in South Dakota - youth and young adult suicide - is too great for any organization to solely rely on federal grant cycles to address. Lost&Found's leadership on the issue led to a greater understanding among policymakers, and ultimately, a choice to invest funds in statewide programs for this purpose.
