The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.
Goal One: The Academy for Teachers has shown that its programs make teachers four times more likely to remain in the profession. With a strong staff and excellent reputation, we are ready for growth as we hire a new Executive Director, allowing for a smooth transition as the founding president shifts to a programmatic focus.
Goal Two: The Academy supports 3,200 teachers from 650 public, charter, and private schools. With 73,000 teachers working in 1,700 public schools, there’s enormous room for growth, especially with our Early Career Fellowship where experienced Fellows mentor new teachers. We aim to solidify our presence in NYC with a dedicated space for teachers and expand our programs regionally, nationally, and online.
Goal Three: Teaching can be lonely. Teachers crave opportunities to come together with other teachers from other schools. We organize lectures, salons, concerts, and workshops. We have reading and writing groups, a softball team, and a chorus. Our afterschool salons and dinners always sell out, with a wait list. By increasing the number and kind of activities we offer teachers, more teachers will take part.
