Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Program Delivery
Volunteers are part of the lifeblood or our organization. Keeping our volunteers safe reduced our ability to effectively maintain volunteer opportunities for other than regular volunteers.
Through the support received from PPP we were able to maintain our full staff. We did experience loss of revenue from our two ReStore locations due to the 45 day initial shutdown.
Our home repair program was directly affected as we did not want to expose those homeowners who would have had direct contact with our home repair team members. This extended the amount of time each project took to complete and many that had interior work were delayed for months.
We quickly adopted processes for enhanced safety across every area of the organization. Our ReStore locations upon reopening instituted a mask mandate policy for all shoppers and team members that stayed in place for 12 months. Our construction staff worked without volunteer support but we were able to continue to build for the families in the program, just at a slower pace. Working from home became an option for administrative staff members and all board and committee meetings shifted to virtual formats.
Virtual meeting options will continue to be available for board and committee meetings. We have also implemented a RSVP system for our informational meetings that allows us to better manage the number of attendees and provide a better learning experience.

Our organization is committed to providing opportunities for individual and team growth. During the past 18 months we have facilitated six team retreats that have included team building activities, planning sessions and personal growth sessions. One of the retreats was a national leadership simulcast that included teaching from John Maxwell and Henry Cloud.

Partnership is built into our DNA. Our clients receive education through 2 other local organizations, we participate in a statewide affordable housing coalition, our staff shares experience and knowledge through local presentations and national Habitat for Humanity conferences and virtual meetings. Staff participate in the annual Habitat on the Hill conference in Washington D.C. advocating for affordable housing with our Representative and Senators. We also participate in meetings to that will help to inform local housing policy changes to make providing affordable housing a more achievable end result.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Providing housing that is affordable to purchase does not mean it is less expensive to build. As material costs and availability became a moving target, our team worked harder to plan better to get ahead of the supply chain issues to keep our projects on track as best we could. We have adjusted the materials we utilize, changed processes where necessary and increased flexibility in moving between ongoing projects to keep moving toward our goals. We continue to focus on serving the families in need of affordable housing and not let the constantly changing external environment take our focus.
