Processing Foundation

Mission

To promote software literacy within the visual arts, and visual literacy within technology-related fields — and to make these fields accessible to diverse communities. Our goal is to empower people of all interests and backgrounds to learn how to program and make creative work with code, especially those who might not otherwise have access to these tools and resources.

Vision

Processing Foundation envisions a world where artists are empowered to build, remix, and publish open-source creative software, free from proprietary constraints, corporate gatekeeping, and social-economic barriers.

Goals

1.Establish shared governance through the p5.js and Processing Shared Responsibilities Committees, maintain accessible infrastructure, enable collective decision-making about technical direction, and invest in next-generation technology through our R&D initiative that keeps The Commons viable long-term.
2.Transform artists from consumers to contributors, demonstrate that building tools is accessible, create visible examples of artist-led development.
3.Create distributed access points to the commons, lower barriers to participation, establish local stewards and organizers.
