Our vision is a world where farmed animals are treated with compassion and respect. We believe that

Goal One: To achieve recognition that global action is needed to end factory farming and reduce overall meat consumption in favor of post-industrial agriculture.

Goal Two: To drive legislation to achieve better standards of animal welfare through campaigning and advocacy.

Goal Three: To drive better animal welfare standards in the global food supply chain by working with food companies.

Compassion in World Farming recognizes the pinnacle importance of sound leadership and the resulting impact upon the success of our entire movement. As an organization, we champion a culture of continuing education for our staff at every level. Internally, as it relates to key areas of responsibility and continually developing skills and expertise to improve effectiveness; cross-departmentally, in terms of cultivating our team members to acquire skills in other areas that may fall outside of their day to day responsibilities; and professionally, in honing skills and gaining valuable experience both inside and outside of our organization, by way of education, networking, and volunteerism geared towards developing leadership skills and strengths. A generous stipend is allocated for the entire team, and staff members are encouraged to leverage these opportunities, recognizing that our most critical and valuable resource is the people serving our mission and pursuing our vision.

We are passionate pragmatists, relentlessly focused on ending factory farming. We are mobilizing a growing movement of concerned citizens, consumers, and other stakeholders to campaign for higher welfare policy changes by governments and companies toward a tipping point that will end factory farming. We engage with all of the issues associated with factory farming - including the environment, pollution, human health, and threats to wildlife, as well as cruelty and sentience, in order to gain greatest leverage for change. We work with specialist organizations in these related fields where our objectives coincide. We see political reform as driving change and consolidating changes in attitudes and behaviors. We aim to convert, rather than coerce, food companies to recognize the need for change.

This past year proved especially challenging for all of us. The critical nature of our mission does not pause for anything, not even a global pandemic; if anything, issues surrounding the spread of COVID-19 served to shine a light upon many elements directly relating to the abuses of animals around the globe. Our organization relies upon its ability to campaign external audiences and constituencies; the pandemic led us to adopt a responsive, creative manner with which to continue to effectively interact with the outside world at large. Our nimble and resourceful team navigated the immense challenges associated with an inability to travel and meet face-to-face, and worked hard to implement effective means to connect virtually instead. Board rooms became Zoom calls. Press releases became Twitter storms. Outreach and engagement focused on social media and email communication channels. Our commitment to the mission proved as relentless as ever, as our vital work not only was performed uninterrupted - but rather, amplified our voices to whole new levels, reaching more and more people than ever before. Our organization, and its impact, grew over the past year. Our work is far from done, however - and we move into the new era with renewed vim and vigor for the importance of what we do. Leveraging all we've learned from the past year will serve only to strengthen our efforts, as we continue to innovate how we progress towards our goal of a kinder, more compassionate and sustainable world for all of us - animals and humans alike.
