We have worked with an organization called For Impact that teaches you the best way to communicate your story with the community and donors alike. They provide you with the skills needed to grow as an organization. They teach you about teamwork and utilizing the unique gifts and talents each individual brings to your group.
As a mostly female-run organization, we are interested in empowering our employees to be the best they can be in their given field. We have participated in Women Leadership Conferences and have also had the honor of our founder being a guest speaker at The Women in Business Empowerment Conference with the University of California school system.
Since we are a small non-profit we try to take advantage of the free courses and conferences that are put on at the state and local levels.

Like most nonprofits, the worldwide pandemic had a huge impact on our organization. At first, we were completely shut down and frozen with no capability of any kind of outreach. We were not sure what to do as we mostly were working with providing our Comfort Cubs through hospitals. However, hospitals became the very hardest place to have any kind of access to due to the fear of contagion. Most of the other places we had access to also were shut and we were at a loss as to how best to distribute our Comfort Cubs to those in need. We were not able to reach our main group of mothers who had lost a child as early on in the pandemic there was fear of COVID being alive on objects. However, something organically occurred! People who were struggling with mental wellness issues due to fear, isolation, and anxiety brought on by the pandemic started to reach out to us in need of some extra comfort in the form of our weighted therapeutic teddy bears. The request started coming in by the dozen! We were soon overwhelmed with requests from a whole new group of people in need. So we adjusted not by going to those in need but to respond to them coming to us! The science of The Comfort Cub when held close, due to "deep touch pressure" elicits the same physiological response as receiving a hug. It causes your blood pressure to go down, your breathing to slow and gives you an overall sense of well being and calm. Who couldn't use an extra hug and love during this very difficult time? We ended up shipping out thousands of cubs to those in need! It also opened a new area of concern where are focusing much of our attention into the world of mental health. We are deeply concerned about the rate of suicide in young people and are working closely with junior high and high school counselors to reach the kids in most need.
