This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them, and doing this pauses our revision of their rating. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Climate Resolve reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
Program Delivery
Fundraising Capacity
Revenue
Staffing
Administrative Capacity
Balance Sheet
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
We applied to two (2) PPP loans and were able to make up for a deficit in income in the first year and a half of the pandemic. The deficit was caused by a delay in payments from grant makers due to pandemic related shortfalls and staffing delays on their end. Thus, a significant amount of revenue that we anticipated receiving in 2020 we did not receive until months later or the following year in some cases.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
Due to lockdown restrictions, a significant portion of our in-person programming had to shift to a virtual platform. Thus, our outreach programs had to be completely retooled in order to fulfill pre-existing grant requirements. We were able to pivot to a virtual mode of delivery, though this required significantly more work on the part of our program staff.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
In addition to the virtual shift noted above, we also pivoted our annual fundraising gala to a virtual networking platform. The gala was planned for the week that we ultimately went into lockdown. Thus, we had to reinvest significant staff time and resources into rebuilding the event in an on-line format. Ultimately, we found a virtual networking and events platform which empowered us to maintain all of our existing sponsors and attendees, and provide a worthwhile experience for all participants that was extremely well received. Our staff shifted to 100% remote work, which required that we adopt new on-line project management tools and different modes of communication to accommodate our new working environment. We also par took in virtual staff gathering and trainings that addressed mental health and social concerns, honoring the new realities of our work life during the pandemic.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
We will continue to offer additional online learning products such as, explainer videos, and social media cards that allow us to impact a broader audience. We also are continuing to use new virtual project management systems and supplemental public engagement software products to continue delivering high value programming through a hybrid format. Furthermore, we are continuing to provide work life and wellness resources to team members in order to ensure that they are equipped with healthy and safe working conditions at home.
