    Pediatric Orthopedic Project Inc.

    Mission

POP is a non-profit (501c3) organization that not only operates and treats needy children with orthopedic conditions like scoliosis in the developing world, but who also focuses on educating local doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to expand the number of children serviced and ensure global impact and sustainability. Each year we bring an entire team of medical experts (doctors, nurses, technologists and ancillary staff) and perform free surgeries in impoverished children with orthopedic conditions who would otherwise not have the opportunity for surgical correction. Since our inception in 2012, 523 patients have benefited from our efforts. All patients have received free surgeries either in the Arturo Grullón Children’s Hospital or at Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS), both located in Santiago Dominican Republic. Most cases have been for the correction of scoliosis, or crooked backs. Of these, a total of 103 cases have been corrected through our POP team while an additional 420 cases have been treated by the hands of our Dominican colleagues, utilizing the techniques that we taught them. Additionally we have sponsored 11 children, 6 of which we have brought to the US for treatment. Originally based in St. Louis, MO, Pediatric Orthopedic Project recently relocated to Carmel, IN.
