Some long-standing supporters had to change the status of their subscriptions (from monthly recurring to once per year) given a change in their personal finances. Following a recent Covid-related change in direction by one of our key funders it resulted in the withdrawal of previously committed funds.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
Due to social distancing we had to change the delivery/format of one of our major fundraisers and go with a virtual fundraiser instead. It has been very difficult to engage persons without the necessary meet-ups to facilitate discussions and/or sensitization workshops etc but we continue to remain committed to the cause and find ways to improve and introduce aspects of our program offerings. On the plus side the reality of Covid-19 created a measure of urgency for Freedom United to speak on the global impact in the context of our mission and it saw Freedom United launch its call to action brief “Exposing the Hidden Victims of COVID-19: demanding better protection for victims and communities vulnerable to modern slavery” available online and in PDF format.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
Although not new to us, we provided and enhanced our work solutions across the organization to adapt for remote work, engagement and partnerships with our team, community, funders and partners. We held our major fundraiser as a Virtual gala for the first time and relied on partners, friends and families to engage our community and supporters.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
The virtual gala we hosted for the first time this year was a success and we will continue to offer it moving forward. Ensuring that our Covid-19 brief continues to get as much visibility and traction as it can in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic that will continue to build an awareness as to the global impact.
