We try to keep a connection to our placed candidates through a variety of methods of alumni engagement. Regular surveys are an aspect of this. The survey results help us improve our programs and maintain an engaged alumni community. Our dedication to our alumni's feedback has led us to elect our first program alumni to our Board of Directors.

The most common feedback we receive from our program alumni is that they wish they knew about our program earlier. Understanding how difficult the military transition can be is a constant struggle for active duty service members. This has led us to try to reach potential candidates earlier in their transition process through government partnerships and marketing investments.

Our Executive Director led a Professional Growth Committee for the past two years that spanned 150+ fellow non-profit & organizations. In Feb 2022 NextOp added a Director of Strategic Partnerships & Outreach role to focus efforts intentionally in this space as NextOp scales and furthers impact. One of NextOp’s 5 Enabling Objectives from our 2021, 3-year strategy refresh is to “maintain and create intentional strategic partner ships to enable mission.” NextOp received multiple awards in 2021 recognizing our collaborative efforts and impact, including awards from the state of Oklahoma, Hiring our Heroes (US Chamber of Commerce) and the Houston Business Journal. NextOp leadership and staff have lead numerous presentations for workforce organizations like the Greater Houston Partnership & GNO Inc., companies like CVS, Chevron, and many more, and community organizations like United Way. NextOp has established formal partnerships with DoD, DoL, and state leadership in our arena.

Our organization continued to adapt to Covid impacts and the dynamic workforce development arena. We added a programs employee in North Carolina to have greater, earlier engagement with transitioning service members before they depart the service to best enable career transition success. North Carolina has 4 major military installations with significant young enlisted (most racially & ethnically diverse, and least degreed and networked population in the military). Continuing to stay closely engaged with Dept of Defense and Dept of Labor updates, we opened our timeline for supporting transitioning service members to line up with the new DoD timeline of 12 mos prior to separation from service. We recognized the missed opportunity for DoD SkillBridge internships for our population (middle-enlisted) and applied for and received approval to facilitate a program matching candidates to internships. This was later independently, specifically recognized as a need during the Senate armed services budget review. NextOp continued to monitor stable and emerging industries and engage new companies and industries to bring awareness to our diverse, talented candidate pool.
