Vision

Founded in 2014 as a chapter of the Waterkeeper Alliance, SRW works independently and with other grassroots environmental organizations and Native American tribes at the local and regional level to fight for enforcement of river protections guaranteed by the Clean Water Act (CWA). SRW leverages independently-generated science with federal statutory regulations while broadly publicizing persistent threats to water quality in order to motivate action. We have achieved sustained success through carefully-targeted lawsuits that compel enforcement of bedrock environmental laws to generate long-term clean water solutions. SRW’s work benefits fisheries and the people that live on and along these magnificent resources—and depend on them for subsistence and survival.

Goals

1. 1.SRW is expanding its reach to include water quality projects outside of the Snake River Basin. In 2026, we plan to launch our exciting new Waterkeeper collaborative project bringing clean water to rural communities in Africa along with our ongoing critical work protecting the Snake River Basin from persistent water quality threats.
2. 2.A critical component of our Water Quality Program includes working with college level interns to monitor water quality across the Snake River Basin — roles we are seeking to transition to paid positions going forward in order to prioritize furthering our diversity, equity and inclusion goals while continuing to provide a unique educational opportunity.
3. 3.In the coming years, we will continue to focus our fundraising efforts on expanding our member base to include even more people who live along the Snake River and depend on it for safe recreation and clean drinking water.
