Casa of Bell and Coryell Counties
Mission
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Bell and Coryell Counties (CASAs) serve abused and neglected children by providing a trained volunteer to be the voice for the child’s right to safety in placement, permanence in family life and a loving home.
Vision
CASA recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children who have been removed from their primary families and placed into foster care. CASA advocates often become the most consistent and constant adult presence in the life of the children we serve. The goal of an advocate is to make recommendations to the judges about what is in the best interest of each child until their case is resolved. CASA advocates only serve on one case at a time to provide dedicated support and mentorship for each child we are assigned.
Goals
- 1.CASA is currently serving about 35% of the children in need in Bell and Coryell Counties. Our ability to serve more children depends on two things: 1. Recruiting/training more volunteers and 2. Adding qualified supervisors to the CASA staff as our numbers of volunteers requires it. CASA Advocate Supervisors are allowed to oversee up to 30 volunteers.
- 2.Adding staff to accommodate more volunteers requires more funding. Increasing the funds for direct services will allow us to support more volunteers and serve more children. Currently, we are serving 350 children annually. There are 1,000 children in our two counties in the foster care system. We have a 5 year strategic plan adopted in 2025 to serve 50% of the children in our area by 2030.
- 3.We continue to improve training efforts and resources for our volunteer advocates. It costs CASA approximately $1,750 annually to recruit, train, and vet each volunteer advocate. Pre-service training consists of 35 hours of in-person training before being sworn in. All volunteers are required to maintain their certification by participating in at least 12 hours of in-service training annually.
