The Dream Opportunity is a global nonprofit that partners with Fortune 500 and major companies to help low-income students discover career paths they may not have known existed and receive essential workforce skills that will help them secure their dream opportunity. In partnership with high schools, higher education institutions, and corporations, The Dream Opportunity equips youth with professional development workshops, mentorship opportunities, and pathways to internships, apprenticeships, and entry-level positions. According to a study from Georgetown University, minority students statistically choose college majors that lead to lower-paying careers and they graduate college less often, perpetuating a cycle of economic disparity. This cycle is due to the fact that many students in low-income communities don’t know about high-paying jobs, aren’t fully prepared for professional opportunities, and have few connections to big companies. We provide holistic solutions to ensure that young people are able to access and achieve their right to experience economic mobility and break free from poverty. We partner with major global companies to connect their employees with students through interactive panels and workshops that teach students about different careers and help them build essential professional skills. In turn, these companies then recruit our students to receive internships, apprenticeships and entry-level positions. Since our corporate partners are Fortune 500 companies, we are breaking generational cycles of poverty by connecting young people from low-income communities to high-income careers, essential skills, and life-changing opportunities in top industries. As a result, nearly all of our students are the first in their family to receive a life-changing opportunity during such a foundational chapter of their lives: a higher-paying job with some of the most prestigious corporations across the globe. In this way, DO actively paves the way for young people to transcend out of a generational cycle of poverty. The Dream Opportunity has connected over 100,000 students from around the globe to career exposure and job skills training experiences with partners such as: JP Morgan Chase, HSBC, Kellonova, Ernst and Young, AllianceBernstein (AB), Informa Markets, Akamai, Amazon, NCSolutions, Peloton, Paramount, HBO, Warner Brothers, AT&T and many others.
