Founded in 1954, Desert Foothills Library is Arizona's only nonprofit independent library, serving all of Maricopa County. The mission of the Desert Foothills Library is to enrich the Desert Foothills Community by promoting literacy and advancing knowledge through library resources and programs that inspire and support lifelong learning. This includes comprehensive multigenerational services for our children, youth, adults, and families. Our most impacted communities are Anthem, Carefree, Cave Creek, New River, Rio Verde, and Scottsdale. Each year we provide more than 2,000 lifelong learning programs, serving over 6,000 community members with more than 17,000 program check-ins. (Less)

During the past year, Desert Foothills Library has: * created multiple programs with other local nonprofits, including literacy programs with the local foodbank to feed the body and mind, partnerships with our local school district to make learning opportunities more accessible, music programming with a local organization to increase access to the power of music, and many others. * Participated in both local and state nonprofit networks, including holding capacity building trainings for other local nonprofits. * Increased our social media profile with one post reaching more than 20,000 on Facebook. * Expanded our membership program to grow community support. * Organized three multi-agency fundraising events.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
During the pandemic, Desert Foothills Library’s multigenerational programming moved online with physical learning resources provided via a drive-thru service. Our online programming included Zoom book clubs and classes to keep our patrons connected with each other, preventing the isolation that particularly affected our seniors during the pandemic. For youth, we offered STEAM programs through community partners like “NASA at your Library” and Storyboard That as well as original content such as online story times and digital learning tools to help beleaguered parents. Now that the library is fully open, we are ramping up our services to meet the educational gap left by the pandemic with plans to offer 200 children and youth events in critical learning areas.
