Mission

Transportation Alternatives (TA) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit advocacy organization operating in New York City and supported by thousands of members and volunteers. TA’s mission is to reclaim New York City from cars, transforming our streets into safe, sustainable, and equitable places to walk, bike, take transit, gather, and thrive. Since our founding in 1973, TA has worked in all five boroughs, advocating for innovative transportation policies, improvements in traffic safety, and increased access to the street for people walking, biking, and riding public transit.
