Unable to do large in person fundraisers we were able to maintain similar revenue levels due to qualifying for CARES Act Payroll Protection Program funds.

We moved quickly from in-person programming to virtual and then to hybrid programming while adapting to changing conditions and advancing technologies.

We utilized remote video technologies to connect with stakeholders, staff, board members and participants. We found new ways to qualify for funding and we raised more funds to help our participants with emergency funds for those who were adversely effected by the pandemic.

Virtual video technologies will continue to remain a valuable function of our work in all aspects. The ability to allow staff to work remotely more often or from different locations will remain a flexible benefit for the company.

We partner with colleges and universities, K-12 districts and homeschool collective, foster care agencies and providers who serve youth and families experiencing unstable or unsafe housing. We are a part of several collective impact networks that serve to support youth from foster or unstable housing settings in Miami-Dade County, Florida and Michigan. We actively present our work around the country, publish research and participate on panels at conferences, convening and webinars. Through our statewide collective impact work in Florida and Michigan as a backbone agency we provide training, technical assistance and resources to our members, orient new members and serve to build a larger community of engaged and informed citizens. We have been a part of local, state and institutional policies regarding better access and success in higher education for youth from foster care and for youth experiencing unstable housing.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


Like so many organizations since the pandemic began we have had to find new ways to reach our youth, to keep our staff connected, to engage our board of directors and to successfully raise the funds needed to reach our goals. Our fiscal year 2020 we reached a record amount in revenue, just over $3,000,000 for the first time and we allocated more of those resources than ever to direct financial needs of our participants. We were able to assist them with basic needs: food, transportation, medical bills, PPE, rental assistance and educational related expenses like books and supplies. We struggled to make up revenue lost by in person fundraising events but made up for those losses thanks to qualifying for the CARES Act Payroll Protection Program. In the past year we have transitioned back to in-person activities after going fully remote in the early months of the pandemic. The constant scientific and political changes to the dialogue have left our team, our youth and their families exhausted yet we have persisted. A record 58 of our college students earned degrees during the pandemic. We were able to assist Saint Petersburg College in hiring a dedicated college coach to serve students who have experience in foster care or homeless settings. We were able to acquire a well respected program out of Michigan, Fostering Success Michigan to complement the work we do in Florida with the Positive Pathways program. In general we have found ways to adapt and we are better for it.
