Mission

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International is dedicated to the conservation, protection and study of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. Founded originally by Dian Fossey as the Digit Fund, the organization has since grown to incorporate a holistic and integrated approach, which includes close collaboration with local communities as well as partners from around the world. In addition, we believe that the value of our work is even more far reaching. When gorillas are protected, so are their important forest habitats, which are important ecosystems that support our planet and all life on earth.

We envision a world where gorillas, their ecosystems, and people thrive together for the health of the planet.

Goals

1.Great apes face enormous threats and could lose their remaining habitat. In the next five years, we will further strengthen this stronghold for ape conservation by obtaining government recognition for an additional 1,300 square kilometers of forest and seek nature-based financing solutions to generate long-term financial support for both communities and conservation activities.
2.Lead the scientific understanding of gorillas and their ecosystems and develop evidence-based conservation strategies. We will continue to lead groundbreaking research on gorillas and their critical ecosystems and advance our understanding of reforestation and biodiversity recovery.
3.In partnership with local communities, expand our programs to increase resilience and address basic needs to impact the lives of 100k+ people annually.
