Mission

Public Citizen is a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that champions the public interest in the halls of power. We defend democracy, resist corporate power, and fight to ensure that government works for the people – not big corporations or the powerful few. For over fifty years, we have utilized every tool at our disposal to fight for policies that support everyday Americans. We monitor Congress, promote industry regulations that safeguard the public, sue the government when it fails to do its job, mobilize activists into movements, and publish cutting-edge research that drives policy in our nation’s capital.

1.Protecting, Preserving and Advancing Democracy by fighting threats to our democracy by exposing corruption, and mobilizing the public for a government that represents and supports everyday Americans.
2.Litigation on behalf of consumers. Public Citizen Litigation Group draws on our expertise in administrative law, constitutional law, and government transparency to ensure the honest functioning of the government and periodically represent individual consumers seeking redress.
3.Our medical researchers work to ensure that the Food and Drug Administration is only approving safe and effective drugs and medical devices. This team also produces a subscription-based newsletter, Worst Pills/Best Pills, an expert, independent second opinion on more than 1,800 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and supplements.
